This week the Terrapin Care Station began selling marijuana to customer's 21 and up for recreational purposes legally. This past Saturday was my first shift working rec. I had been working at the dispensary for 6 months, but nothing could prepare me for that 10 hour Saturday shift. I arrived 10 minutes early to work and there was already a line wrapped around the building. Throughout the day we had a 15 minute wait outside and a 45 minute wait once you got inside. The energy was electric. Everyone there was there to celebrate the same thing, ending this horrible prohibition. I met people from other states, a couple had even driven down from Canada just to experience the event. I met a few seasoned smokers, but the majority were first timers wanting to finally get to experience this healing herb without having the risk of their lives being ruined by the penal system. I gave plenty of first time lessons, especially for edibles. Helping someone not have a bad experience with their first time was probably one of my greatest joys that day. Helping them understand how to dose and what ways it can help with body ailments is what so many of my customer's were asking for. You could tell they have never had a chance to speak freely about this in public. This time is really amazing. The direction this medicine will take us all is new territory for so many of us, but offers confirmation that through some crazy chance of democracy we can actually control our lives.

Another addition to my latest series on Canabis strains. Living in Colorado and working part time at a dispensary, I thought it only too perfect of a subject to try out just in time for the full recreational sale of Canabis in the Boulder area in the next month.
All ideas start out as just an idea in my head. From there, I need a sketch to work for me before I can commit to starting the piece. Just thought I would share some sketches of my recent work.
Come check out my latest series called Bolder Businesses being shown at Terrapin Care Station in Boulder off Folsom and Canyon. You might remember having breakfast down at Burnt Toast if you went to C.U. Boulder before 2009. It's not around anymore, but they used to have the best banana granola nut pancakes. They will be missed. I hope you like my tribute.
Here, can you guess this Boulder favorite ice cream parlor? "It's award winning", as my brother often likes to remind me. My family and I have been visiting Glacier Ice Cream since I first moved to Boulder back in 02'. I've always loved all their great art on the walls and their signature tounge hanging out bear. We'll see if they accept my gift. Hope you enjoy the art. My series of different Boulder establishments continues with my latest piece of one of my personal favorites, the Mountain Sun. Since my son was four years old, we have been visiting The Sun. He always gets a cheeseburger and a rootbeer while we battle at a game of chess. 10 years later, we are still sharing this great pastime at this wonderful venue. Keep an eye out for this piece. We'll see what they do with it after I deliver their framed piece. I had a major breakthrough this weekend while working on my latest piece for The Hungry Toad Restaurant and Pub. I picked up some sharpie paint pens for a group art project on a whim. And holy cow, these pens rock. What would have taken me months using color pencil on wood, I was able to complete in minutes. I am so excited to use these on my next project and see what I can complete this time. |
