This week the Terrapin Care Station began selling marijuana to customer's 21 and up for recreational purposes legally. This past Saturday was my first shift working rec. I had been working at the dispensary for 6 months, but nothing could prepare me for that 10 hour Saturday shift. I arrived 10 minutes early to work and there was already a line wrapped around the building. Throughout the day we had a 15 minute wait outside and a 45 minute wait once you got inside. The energy was electric. Everyone there was there to celebrate the same thing, ending this horrible prohibition. I met people from other states, a couple had even driven down from Canada just to experience the event. I met a few seasoned smokers, but the majority were first timers wanting to finally get to experience this healing herb without having the risk of their lives being ruined by the penal system. I gave plenty of first time lessons, especially for edibles. Helping someone not have a bad experience with their first time was probably one of my greatest joys that day. Helping them understand how to dose and what ways it can help with body ailments is what so many of my customer's were asking for. You could tell they have never had a chance to speak freely about this in public. This time is really amazing. The direction this medicine will take us all is new territory for so many of us, but offers confirmation that through some crazy chance of democracy we can actually control our lives.
